WAYNE COUNTY 4-H QUEEN CONTEST — Rules and Responsibilities

1. Each contestant must be at least 16 years of age on June 12, 2010 and not more than 21 on August 6, 2010, the first day of the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant.
2. She must be a resident of Wayne County for six months prior to the pageant. The only exception to county residence - a candidate may reside in an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in the county in which she enters the pageant.
3. If selected as Queen, in order to be eligible for the Indiana State Fair competition, the following criteria apply:
a. Contestants must be unmarried and must have never been married.
b. Contestants cannot have had a child or be knowingly pregnant at the time of the county fair or the State Fair pageant. (If Miss Indiana State Fair 2011 becomes pregnant anytime during her reign, she will be required to relinquish her title).
4. On Friday, June 11th at the private judging, beginning at 9:00 a.m. contestants will be judged in professional wear and in an interview. Professional wear is a suit or dress.
5. On Friday evening, June 11th, contestants will be judged in formal evening attire. The Queen Committee should be consulted for appropriate selections. Also, all contestants will appear in professional wear for the evening public presentation. All judging and the evening public pageant on June 11th will occur at Centerville High School.
6. Contestants must be sponsored by a recognized organization or business. Applications must be completed and sent to: Cheryl Daggy, Wayne County 4-H Queen, Chairperson, 2311 Airport Road, Centerville, IN 47330, by April 15, 2010 (early bird registration), May 15, 2010 (standard registration) or June 1, 2010 (late registration). Applications must include a wallet sized (2’ x 3”) photograph for use in publicity.
7. An entry fee must accompany the application form. For early registration (before April 15, 2010), entry fee is $40.00; standard registration (April 15 -May 15, 2010) entry fee is $50.00; late registration (May 15 – June 1, 2010) entry fee is $60.00 The sponsoring organization or business will pay the entry fee by check or money order payable to: Wayne County 4-H Fair Committee (4-H Queen Contest).
8. No professional model will be considered eligible for the county pageant. A professional model is defined as one who has received pay for modeling. A contestant may have had training in modeling.
9. To be eligible for the pageant, contestants are expected to attend all functions preceding the pageant including: Orientation, June 1st at 7:00 p.m. Practice, June 8th, and June 9th at 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Kuhlman Center. In the event of illness or conflict, the contestant is expected to contact the pageant chairperson.
10. The contestant selected to be the Wayne County 4-H Queen pageant must fulfill her obligations by:
*Participating in the orientation meeting, rehearsals, judging, and pageant day luncheon.
*Attend all specified events as requested by the Wayne County 4-H Fair Queen Committee, during the week of the Wayne County 4-H Fair, June 19-26, 2010.
*Represent Wayne County at the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant, August 6-22, 2010 with your Mother or other qualified female adult, approved by the Wayne County 4-H Queen Committee.
*Attend the entire 2011 Wayne County 4-H Queen Pageant to provide final remarks, assist the Master of Ceremonies, and crown the alternates and Queen.
11. No previous county 4-H Queen is eligible to participate again.
12. The judging on Friday morning, June 11th is private. The evening judging and crowning is open to the public.
13. No mother, relative or friend may be in the dressing room during any of the judging activities.

Judges and Awards
The judging is divided into three divisions:
Division I – PROFESSIONAL WEAR
Attire: Suit or dress (no pants or pant suits will be allowed) (Total 20 points)
Posture and poise – 10 Points
Overall Impression – 10 Points
Division II – INTERVIEW
Each contestant will have five (5) minutes before the judges. She will answer impromptu questions asked by the judges. (Total 50 points)
Ability to converse – 20 Points
Personality – 15 Points
Poise – 15 Points
Division III – EVENING GOWN
Attire: Long Evening Gown
At least one portion of the evening gown’s hemline needs to be floor length (touching the floor
or the contestant’s foot). Gown’s with the skirt split above the knee (more than 2 inches
above the kneecap) And/or a low cut bodice will be discounted by the judges. (Total 30 points)
Stage Presentation/Overall Impression – 15 Points
Response to Questions – 15 Points
Duties of Wayne County 4-H Queen and Alternates
following year. She will take part in the fair activities, i.e., presenting awards to exhibit winners,
fashion revue winner, etc. The alternates and Miss Congeniality are also required to participate in fair
activities during the week. A schedule will be given to the queen, alternates, and Miss Congeniality the
evening of the pageant or soon thereafter.
Pageant. (This person should be the mother of the Queen or another female approved by the 4-H Queen Committee Chairperson).
